If we get taxed on every penny we make in investment income every year, why are we only entitled to $3000 loss as a deduction each year? Is it just purely to benefit the govt? Are they hoping that, if we lose a lot, we cannot possibly ever get all the deductions that we are entitled to? Is it the same logic for making a profit on selling real estate…we are taxed when we profit more than $250K, but when we sell for less, we can’t deduct it as a loss?

I would like to get in on the ground floor if anyone has any good ideas, or is starting a project. I don’t mind some risk, if the idea is strong.
