Discuss each of the following types of investments in terms of their liquidity, their risk, and their income, and their growth potential:
Bonds, Stocks, and Real Estate.

Sam S asked:

If we get taxed on every penny we make in investment income every year, why are we only entitled to $3000 loss as a deduction each year? Is it just purely to benefit the govt? Are they hoping that, if we lose a lot, we cannot possibly ever get all the deductions that we are entitled to? Is it the same logic for making a profit on selling real estate…we are taxed when we profit more than $250K, but when we sell for less, we can’t deduct it as a loss?

I would like to get in on the ground floor if anyone has any good ideas, or is starting a project. I don’t mind some risk, if the idea is strong.

Can anyone tell me the best online brokerage for buying/selling investments?

I am 24 years old. I want a site with low rates and great features to use. Is there a site that is the unspoken leader in the online investment community? I have heard of Etrade, scottstrade, ameritrade but I am not sure if these are as good as they advertise.

I want to give her a good if not great start once she is 18. I hope to have a good enough investment to at least pay for college, but I would love to find one that would have her set up financially even after college.

I know very little about investments, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
